Shahram Azmoudeh Released

Shahram Azmoudeh is a teachers’ rights activist and the editor-in-chief of the monthly Talesh va Moalem in Talesh in the northern Iranian province of Gilan. He was arrested on October 1, 2020, following the protests over the death of the 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while in the custody of Morality Police.

According to the website Taleshan News, Shahram Azmoudeh was arrested after he was summoned by a security agency and was released in the afternoon of the next day after spending the night in the detention center. Reportedly, he was arrested because on his Instagram page he had criticized the events leading to the death of Mahsa Amini and the treatment of protesters.

Shahram Azmoudeh is a retired teacher and an independent cultural and social journalist who has been editor-in-chief of Talesh va Moalem for years.
