Shabnam Ashouri Awaiting trial

Shabnam Ashouri is the managing director and owner of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance license for the labor affairs journal Agahnameh. Ashouri was born in 1987, is married and lives in Tehran.

On the morning of October 6, 2020, Ashouri was arrested by security forces in Tehran. The Aghahnameh Twitter account published news of Ashouri's arrest later that same day.

After carrying out the arrest, security officers went to Ashouri’s home, searched her house and confiscated a number of her personal belongings.

Aghanameh is a bi-monthly social and economic affairs journal that deals with issues affecting labourers and manual workers. In the last issue of the journal, there was an interview with Alireza Saghafi, a member of the Iranian Writers' Association and a labor activist, in which Saghafi discussed ongoing problems in Iran.

On October 25, 2020, this labor activist was transferred to a public ward after her interrogation was completed in ward 2A of Evin prison, which belongs to the Revolutionary Guards Intelligence Organization.

The journalist was released on October 27 on a 500,000,000-toman bail pending her trial.

The charges against the journalist and trial date are unknown at this time.

Ashouri worked in labor for more than ten years, and in the two years leading up to her arrest, she focused on labor and workers' issues in the Agahnameh, a bi-monthly social and economic magazine. In the last issue before Ms. Ashouri's arrest, the magazine published an interview with Alireza Saghafi, a member of the Iranian Writers' Association and a labor activist, about current problems in the country.
